PRAJA VIKAS DARSHAN 2012, POINT 10: BETTER TOWN PLANNING, BETTER GOVERNANCE IN THE STATE’S CITIES

The urban citizen in Gujarat faces limitless problems in his everyday life. There are many issues like town planning, water and electricity supply and traffic management that need immediate resolutions. If voted to power, Congress will ensure that deduction of land in Town Planning Schemes are reduced from 40 to 30 per cent. The Floor Space Index(FSI) will be raised and the concept of “Floating FSI” will be implemented. The Jantri rates will be reviewed and rationalized, and all proposed residential colonies facing litigation will be regularized lawfully. To ensure 24X7 water supply, a water authority will be set up in major cities of the state. An autonomous traffic authority is proposed for better traffic management. Bike-mounted security guards will be appointed to man government land to prevent encroachment. Constructed houses will replace slums in the next 5 years. Impact fee (charged for regularizing illegal constructions) rates to be slashed by 50 per cent, with accountability to be fixed for preventing further illegal constructions.
