PRAJA VIKAS DARSHAN 2012, POINT 6: IMPROVING EDUCATION THROUGH LAPTOPS, SCHOLARSHIPS AND HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION

In the area of education, Gujarat currently ranks a poor 8th amongst 20 states of the nation on the Educational Development Index. The levels of primary and secondary education in the state are not very good, and higher education has become unaffordable to middle class and poor families in the state. If Congress is voted to power, free laptops will be distributed to all students after 12th standard, equipping them with skills and enabling them to compete in global arenas. Model schools and degree colleges will be established in every district. Separate government hostels for boys and girls at affordable rates, special buses according to college schedules, appointment of teachers including those for English language in primary schools, along with the enforcement of Right to Education Act with allocation of 25% seats for free education are some of the points that will be implemented. Congress will also help students get Government-sponsored scholarships, “Vidya Nidhi”.
