PRAJA VIKAS DARSHAN 2012, POINT 2: HER “OWN HOME” FOR WOMEN!
According to the 2011 census, there are 18,80,000 homeless living in the state, and 31 lakh families live in cramped 1-room houses. Land is a natural resource and property of the state. If voted to power, Congress will ensure that all housewives of homeless families will be provided with residential units at affordable prices. Cost of land will be waived. Only construction cost will have to be paid. While the BJP government in Gujarat gave away 105 crore sq.mts of land at throwaway prices to industrialists, it mercilessly stopped land schemes for the landless in villages. If voted to power, Congress will provide poor women with houses across 8 municipal corporations and 159 municipalities. 3 lakh homes are planned to be allotted by the Congress every year, after the elections. Building homes for families in villages will help to prevent migration to the cities, and people can continue to be gainfully employed in the place that they belong to.
