PRAJA VIKAS DARSHAN 2012, POINT 7: AIMING FOR EMPLOYMENT AND SKILL DEVELOPMEN

In 1995, when Congress was in power, the state had 2.15 lakh full-time government employees but now the number has come down to 1.74 lakh. There are more than 10 lakh unemployed youths in the state, but the BJP government has failed to provide them meaningful jobs. Congress if voted to power, will provide 1 lakh posts in government service to be filled in, and would increase the age limit for government jobs from 30 to 35 years. It would also form a new policy compelling industries investing in the state to provide 80 percent employment to local youth. Interest rebates on loans will also be given to self-employed youths for purchase of motorbikes. 2.5 lakh educated unemployed youths will be appointed as Apprentice trainees with stipend, under the Apprenticeship Act. Setting up of 100 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs’) and a “Gujarat Handicrafts Academy” are also proposed.
