PRAJA VIKAS DARSHAN 2012, POINT 5: SAVING LIVES, IMPROVING HEALTH

Health levels in the state of Gujarat are worrisome. With life expectancy at 64 years, Gujarat ranks 8th in the country in this vital parameter, trailing far behind other states. 55.3% of women suffer from anemia, and the state ranks a poor 17th when it comes to health of women. Instead of taking care of health issues, the BJP government has chosen to fill the treasuries of industrialists. If voted to power, Congress will constitute Gujarat Medical Service Corporation, as an autonomous body. The availability of free life-saving drugs will be ensured, with medicines available in generic form at every hospital. Health Insurance Scheme will be introduced for middle class people based on PPP(Public Private Partnership) model, with premium for insurance cover upto Rs. 30,000 borne by the State Government. Treatment of life-threatening diseases will be provided free of cost or at negligible charges to the middle class, with 250 life-saving drugs to be provided free of cost.
