PRAJA VIKAS DARSHAN 2012, POINT 8: EMPOWERING THE FARMER-UNINTERRUPTED ELECTRICITY FOR HIS FIELDS

BJP government has done nothing for the farmer of the state- on the contrary, every scheme or programme benefitting them has been discontinued. If Congress forms the next government, it will provide uninterrupted, 16 hours of electricity to farmers, discontinue metered power, giving them proper supply with correct voltage. 90 per cent subsidy to the pumps using solar or wind power will also be granted. Farmers have been waiting for years for electricity connections in the state. Congress will give new electric connections to 10 lakh farmers. Moreover, the Dark Zones from the state will also be removed. 18000 villages will be equipped with solar street lights. BJP government has completely neglected the Narmada Canal network, but the Congress will finish 74,600 kilometer of work within 3 years to provide water for irrigation in 18 lakh hectare land situated in the Narmada Command area. Not a single consistent policy has been maintained or implemented so far, that gives good prices to peanut, onion, potato and cotton growers in the state. A corpus fund of Rs 1000 crores will be designated for market intervention to ensure remunerative prices to the farmers growing these crops.
